GILDAS & JERRY IN INDONESIA

Our new cd mix ‘Kitsuné Soleil’ has only been out a few days (you can purchase it here) that Gildas & I are out in force to promote it around the world. First stop Indonesia where Kitsuné keeps on getting bigger and bigger. We meet directly in Jakarta as I’ve come from London via Kuala Lumpur and Gildas from Paris via Hong Kong. He’s catching a bit of ‘shut eye’ before the gig, whereas I can’t wait to test the (lost amongst skyscrapers) open-air swimming pool on the 17th floor of the hotel.

Then we’re off with our host Siska to tonight’s venue Blowfish situated in some posh-looking mall (Jakarta’s got lots of them apparently). The place’s almost empty as we stock up on tasty fusion Japanese food (the club’s also a top notch restaurant), extraordinarily by the time we take to the decks it’s totally packed to the point you can hardly move. The Kitsuné fans are out, it’s party time. Despite their name, Australia’s Flight Facilities – meant to take over after Gildas’ set – are running late as their flight from Sydney’s been delayed, they make it just on time to finish the evening with their funky, radio-friendly soul-pop.

It’s straight back to the hotel as we have an 8.30am flight to Bali to catch in order to perform at the Beach Live! festival the next day. We meet at 6am in the breakfast area of the hotel which Gildas and I agree is offering the most extensive choice of (morning) food we’ve ever witnessed. Equipped to cater for the breaky of Asians, Americans, Europeans etc there must be twenty cooks firing on all cylinders. Impressive but unfortunately we only have 15 mns on our hands before rushing to Jakarta’s super cute airport (which looks like a holiday resort).

We land in Bali at 10.30am in an airport that’s currently in the process of being fully modernized. Long favoured by international jet-setish hippies and Aussie surfers alike (St Tropez meets Ibiza?), it looks like this little island is gearing itself to welcome yet more visitors. We drop our suitcases and hit the beach at once where we grab local delicacy Nasi Goreng platters.

After a quick nap we hit the festival for Ladyhawke’s gig. We’re big fans, so it’s a real treat to watch her go through all those wonderful songs from the side of the stage. Then it’s for us to kick off. My personal ‘Soleil’ selection couldn’t feel more appropriate in such surroundings, whereas faithful to his reputation Gildas beefs things up with hands-in-the-air biggies ‘til it’s curfew time. We manage to grab some drinks backstage with Pip (Ladyhawke) and her band of fun Brit indiesters.
